By Sheila Sowerby Sometime last year, Larry Squire and I grudgingly became the representatives for BCHBC, Aldergrove Chapter (grudgingly, because we’re lazy) and went for coffee with Anne Patterson and Dave Eddleston from the Langley Horse Federation. They wanted to talk to us about a trail I knew as the Park to Park Connector. This multi-use trail is officially known as The South Langley Regional Trail and was built in 1995 to connect the parks. It extends east from Campbell Valley Park along quiet country roads and pastoral farm fields, o’er hill and dale until it screeches to a halt at 256th and 8th Ave….3 1/2 km short of it’s destination, Aldergrove Park. Fast forward 6 months, and we are at the Langley Township Hall, January 16th 2012, to ask the newly elected Mayor Froese and his council for a bunch of money to finish the trail. Although this began…
As a valued contributor to BC Parks, I would like to invite BCHBC members to help BC Parks develop a province-wide volunteer strategy at upcoming regional workshops. In 2011, BC Parks celebrated its 100th Anniversary, commemorating the establishment of Strathcona Provincial Park in 1911 and celebrating the creation of almost 1000 parks and protected areas since then. This successful celebration would not have been possible without the valuable contributions from volunteers across the province, more than 2500 volunteers participated! To build on this success, BC Parks is developing a volunteer strategy to improve the volunteer experience for our existing and future volunteers. Our goal is to develop a strategy over the next few months and launch it in the upcoming summer season. The workshops will provide you with an opportunity to: Share the work you or your organization has done in support of BC Parks; Contribute to a discussion about…
At the last BCHBC Board of Directors meeting the motion was passed to reserve $300 as an educational grant for each chapter to use to develop an educational event for their members and interested equestrians. This is for now a one- time only offer that simply requires the submission of the grant application forms and the agreement by the Chapter to submit at the end of the event, pictures and a write-up report. Forms are available from me or on our website. Happy Trails Mary Huntington   (Email: This email address is being protected from spambots.
